When I became Chair of the Wilton Democratic Town Committee last fall, I had two goals. I still have them today. First, I wanted to be sure that every office for local and state positions had a Democrat that would run for it. Furthermore, I wanted to be sure the Democrat could win. I am tired of sacrificial lambs. I am tired of the local Democrats thinking of themselves as second rate.
Second, I wanted to develop a "farm club" system where Democrats could work on various local elected and appointed commissions and boards. This would allow one to develop the skills and the experience for serving in higher elected positions such as Town Selectmen and Board of Finance Members.
This is a kind of proving ground where voters could get a chance to see what a person’s work ethic was, what his or her philosophy was, and, of course, would show the individual whether not he or she was cut out for this role.
To do this we need to seek the involvement of persons like you—to identify potential candidates, to recommend individuals for roles in government, and to serve yourself.
Like any successful organization, the Wilton DTC needs to find new, energetic individuals to carry on its work.
The Wilton DTC is working to develop a system whereby this process works on a neighborhood basis. There will soon be a member of the DTC contacting you who will want to get to know you. This person will be your direct contact with the DTC. This person will bring your needs and ideas to the entire DTC.
If you want to get started ahead of that phone call, please call me to volunteer to become active in our programs. We have many roles for you where you can use your talents. And we will not turn anyone away.
In the meantime, you need to know that our monthly meetings at 7:30pm on the first Tuesday at Town Hall are open to all Democrats. We would welcome your attendance.
