Connecticut’s public financing of elections – the Citizens’ Election Program (CEP) – is being threatened by a court ruling and inaction at the legislature. Common Cause believes that changes to the law must be made as soon as possible to address any constitutional questions.
The CEP is making a dramatic difference in opening up the election process for state legislature and for statewide office to people who are not rich or well-connected to lobbyists. This success has changed the way government operates in Connecticut. This is a system worth preserving. This is a system worth protecting.
