Wilton Democratic Town Committee

We are grateful for all your help on this year’s municipal election campaign. We did not succeed in electing two members to the Board of Finance. However, we ran a very strong, well-executed campaign. We owe a debt of gratitude to Deb McFadden and her committee for the fine work they did. They were creative and tireless. We must thank all our donors who made the campaign possible.

We need to thank our candidates, Andy Pforzheimer and Chris Stroup. Andy will serve again. Chris will run for office again. Thank you, too, Chris for letting us use your offices as our headquarters for phone banking and for our election night gathering.

Turnout was enormous… 4,324 – 38.4% of those registered – voted.We need to thank Carole Young-Kleinfeld, our Democratic Registrar of Voters, who sent out the final Wilton election results at 1:00 am. She reported that 38.4% of those registered voted: 4,324. These are enormous numbers for a municipal election. While the liquor vote may have brought out many voters, I am sure that many came to vote for the Board of Finance candidates.

This campaign proved that we Democrats can run a complex, aggressive, well-funded campaign that will scare the pants off the Republicans. Some of the election day tactics the Republicans used were questionable. Some of the language and written statements from the Republicans during the campaign were pretty nasty. We Democrats told the truth and tried always to take the high road.

We are well-prepared for next year’s elections and we look forward to them.
